Roland SERVICE INFORMATION NO 100227 JP-6 SUBJECT PROM Version up on JP-6 Now we have three types of PROM like Ver. 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 for JP-6. 1) Ver.4.0 ... For current JP-6 production This Ver. 4.0 PROM is in correspondence with MIDI Standard 1.0. However, this PROM has no MIDI Select function on the strategic policy of JP-6's sales as well as the other preliminary MIDI Instruments like JX-3P or HP- 300/400. 2) Ver.6.0 ... For changing MIDI Channel (Commercial one). This "THE BEST ONE !!" PROM Ver. 6.0 is also in correspondence with MIDI Standard 1.0, and has MIDI Channel Select function. So this PROM Ver.6.0 is recommended for MIDI Link. 3) Ver.5.0 ... For a service use only This PROM Ver.5.0 is used for setting MIDI Mode on power up to "OMNI OFF/POLY". As you know, JP-6 equipped with Ver.4.0 PROM will be in "OMNI ON" when power up. In this condition, JP-6 will respond to all MIDI channel messages (OMNI ON mode). When YAMAHA MIDI Instrument like DX-7 is connected with JP-6 as a master unit for JP-6, YAMAHA MIDI Instrument does not transmit "OMNI OFF" mode message. The reason why YAMAHA has not been using "OMNI ON/OFF" mode on YAMAHA MIDI M I L Instruments is only his own policy but it doesn't meet MIDI ver. 1.0. So JP-6 (with PROM Ver.4.0) cannot change MIDI mode from OMNI ON to OMNI OFF by itself. This means JP-6 cannot use with the specific MIDI Channel in MIDI Link. Recently we are getting some requirements from customer for controlling JP-6 with the specific MIDI Channel when connected with DX-7. So this time we made PROM Ver. 5.0 only for the above special purpose. The difference from Ver.4.0 is to set MIDI mode on power up to "OMNI OFF". The other functions are strictly same as PROM Ver. 4.0. For your reference, the following table is the compatibility chart between these PROM's. _________________________________ I Ver.4.0 I Ver.5.0 I Ver.6.0 I ___________I__________I___________I__________I I POWER ON I I I I I DEFAULT I OMNI ON I OMNI OFF I OMNI OFF I I___________I__________I___________I__________I I MIDI CH I I I I I SELECT I NONE I NONE I ENABLE I I___________I__________I___________I__________I This time we decided to install Ver.6.0 PROM into JP-6 as standard equipment. Details as follows : 1) Effective: From S/N 494750 (our December Production) 2) Indication: Brown round sticker put by VOLTAGE INDICATION on packing 3) Owner's Manual: The information that PROM Ver. 6.0 has MIDI Channel Select function will be added to this Owner's Manual with attached paper.
